Some Compelling Stats

1 in 5

Caring for an older or an ill loved one could make you sick too. About 1 in 5 family caregivers think their own health has suffered because of the caregiving tasks they do.

<1/3

Most people don't consider long-term care planning until it's too late. Less than a third of Americans aged 50 and older have yet to start planning for long-term care. If they continue to put it off, long-term care options continue to dwindle as time progresses.

63%

Most but not all persons in need of long-term care are elderly. Approximately 63% are persons aged 65 and older (6.3 million); the remaining 37% are 64 years of age and younger (3.7 million).

35%

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, deaths tied to long-term care facilities accounted for 35 percent of America's COVID-19 fatalities.

1 in 10

1 in 10 U.S. long term care or nursing facility residents experience abuse each year. Considering what it costs to place a loved one in a nursing home, it is astonishing that so many seniors suffer abuse in a place they must call home.

$240

Nursing home stays are long and expensive. The median daily cost for a private room in a nursing facility was $240 in 2014. Also, the average stay duration at a nursing home in 2014 was 835 days, or a little over two years.
